I’ve always been a cat person…

I must confess, I’ve been wallowing in a jealous funk these past few days; my friends are boarding flights to tropical destinations while I’m stuck here in the snow. But winter isn’t THAT bad, the cold weather brings with it the chance to do something fun! I’m planning to step out of hibernation, with a thermos of amaretto and hot chocolate, and hit up Hawrelak park for an afternoon of ice skating! (we’ll see how long it takes for the novelty to wear off…)

The last time I went skating it was the early 90’s and I was proudly sporting my favorite sweater from Northern Getaway; I chose it specifically for that day because it featured several cartoon cats holding hands and skating.

Yes, even at a young age I knew the importance of choosing clothing that suited the occasion, and though my tastes have evolved from cartoon cat sweaters, I still believe that half the fun of winter activities is picking the outfit to match. So for those looking for something to wear while frolicking in winter wonderlands, here is a more grown up take on an adorable “rink appropriate” outfit.

Jacket, skirt, long knit sweater all by Vanessa Bruno Athé

Navy stripped linen knit by KAIN label

DIY mittens by Wool and the Gang

Scarf by Malene Birger

Warning: While this outfit will make you look like a polished pro at the rink, unless you’re skills rival Jamie Soleil’s, it cannot guarantee that you won’t end up spread eagle following an attempted triple axel.
