Winter Whites

It’s really easy to allow winter greyish blah’s to take over your wardrobe when the temperature drops. We retire our brightly colored summer frocks and break out the monochrome palette of blacks and greys.

But what about white?

Many people, when thinking white, think of button-up blouses and wedding dresses. Unfortunately for those people, they are missing out on the color’s (shade’s) great potential to brighten up your winter wardrobe without having to revisit the summer pieces that are hidden in the back of your closet.

Bright white pants can be a little intimidating for some –What underwear should I wear? Can I risk sitting on that?– but fear not! They aren’t as scary as they seem. The Nili Lotan French military pant looks great with your favorite plaid, or cozy cable knit sweater.

The cable knit sweater is a wardrobe essential for winter months. Off-white or cream will look cozier than a bright white, and will complement a wider range of reds, blues, and greens should you choose to layer it over something else.

The LWD is a great option for those wanting to break away from black. I shouldn’t have to say this, but this choice is probably not the best for guests at winter weddings –but to avoid looking like a bride at your company’s Christmas party, pair this little dress with a bold jacket (think leather, or a casual blazer).

White jackets, like this Smythe car coat, are a great way to balance staying warm with looking chic. White coats needn’t make you feel like a mad scientist –avoid the trench coat style and opt for something more unique. The Smythe car coat’s structured elements and textured fabric make it one of our favorite pieces for white this winter.

A more casual take on the LWD, this sweater dress from 3.1 Phillip Lim looks amazing when paired with dark tights and ankle boots.

If off-whites just don’t do it for you, go bright and use white for contrast. The white of this Angelique Chmielewski vest is a bold complement to the bright blue skirt and stands out more than a darker option would.

For those who still cannot envision themselves in white (or are too stain-prone to) try incorporating it into your outfit with a white accessory or two.

For the truly adventurous, try mixing multiple white pieces into one outfit –the Nili Lotan pants and cable knit sweater would make the perfect all-white winter outfit!
